Before You Start

To begin the journey of holding your UK driving licence you first need to obtain a Provisional Driving Licence (PDL). This can be done by clicking on the following government link:-

The minimum age to begin driving a car on a public road is 17, however your Provisional Licence can be obtained 3 months prior to this date. You are not allowed to drive on your own until you have passed the practical driving test. Please click on Advice For Parents to find out who is legally allowed to sit with you.

Once you have your provisional driving licence you are ready to go.  Just contact me to arrange some lessons at a convenient time for you.

The following information will give you an insight into what you will have to do to become a qualified driver.

What to expect

Learning to drive is an exciting time in anyone's life, however the responsibility it holds is life shaping and should not be taken lightly.

In order to achieve a full driving licence you must complete the following tests structured by the DSA:

Step 1 - Theory and Hazard Perception Test

Step 2 - Practical Driving Test

You must complete step 1 before you can apply for step 2. For more information on these tests please click on the menu option for The Tests.

How Long Will It Take?

Learning to drive is a very personal experience. The rate at which people learn varies greatly from person to person.

The DSA have conducted a survey of successful candidates; they say "those who pass their driving test have had, on average, about 45 hours of professional training combined with 22 hours of private practice. Learners who combine professional instruction with private practice are also more successful on test".

For more help with private practice please click on the above menu option Advice For Parents.
